After blowing away the Bett Show crowds last month, Minted Box are on a mission to help schools make 2018 their most disruptive year yet. The innovators behind technology used by Tesco, Vodafone, Royal Mail and hundreds of other companies are perhaps most widely known for their seating planner MINTClass, but it’s their new facial-recognition platform that’s likely to steal the spotlight this year.

show schools how this edtech - designed to be ideal for attendance, managing the late queue, fire alarm registration and much more - can be used in the classrooms, in reception, in a sports club, in a lecture, on the field, on a trip, in a factory, and even on a parade!

The facial recognition system is accurate, secure and easy-to-use, created with reduction of teacher workload in mind. The Minted Box team’s dream is no more roll calls, clipboards or signing in, as their system quickly highlights faces it doesn’t recognise, helping schools to avoid unauthorised guests.

“I’m very proud of the team at Minted Box,” enthuses cofounder Iain Bell. “Our developers love to help schools transform their online ideas into precise, reliable and efficient websites and systems. We’re really looking forward to taking this to the next level with our facial-recognition software. Plus, our document management system is already standing schools in good stead for the new GDPR implementations!”

Minted Box encourage disruption in education by digging out the needs and ideas of school staff, and then developing them into reality. This bespoke service ensures that no school receives the same service; having their digital requirements met, not having to meet the framework of a supplier. This is why MINTclass is used by over 400 schools nationwide, and offers many modules requested by schools, such as parent reports, assessment modules, a teacher planner and SEN manager.

George Bligh, iLearning coordinator and governor at Greenshaw High School, says: “MINTclass has definitely helped towards improving behaviour across the school, which has always been one of our key priorities, so we're really pleased! We are huge fans of the system, and would recommend it to anyone.”

Iain adds: “Schools might be pleasantly surprised by our pricing for bespoke software. We can charge in full, have a split revenue with the school or, if it’s a really great idea, we might even build it for free!”

The Minted Box team think that it's always better to listen to school staff and build edtech that specifically answers teacher needs. Why use 20% of five pieces of software and the accompanying licence fees, when you can have a product built and supported at a similar price? The company’s mentality is that teachers involved in the product from ‘birth’ will have more buy-in, and therefore more likely to make the best use of the technology.
