Following a successful pilot in over 40 schools during 2014/2015, Apps for Good’s Mini Course is now open to all schools across the UK for 2015/2016. The edtech movement, working to transform the way technology is taught in schools, has developed a free, flexible course framework during which students find a problem they want to solve and apply new skills to making a real life app. This allows them to explore the full product development cycle, from concept to coding to launch in a way that brings the classroom to life.

The Apps for Good Full Course Framework requires around 30 hours of contact hours to teach, but with the new Mini Course students can move through a more structured version in just 12 hours.

Apps for Good co-CEO Debbie Forster said: “We developed the Mini Course to help meet the needs of schools who have less class time available or want to teach Apps for Good as a club, in a single term or during enrichment days. For these schools the Mini Course allows them to still teach the essentials of our course and build their students digital, teamwork, and problem solving skills.”

Stuart Keen, subject leader for IT and Computing at Dr Challoner’s Grammar School, said: “[The course was] great for increasing enthusiasm and is particularly effective with younger students who enjoy it's bite-size nature. I delivered the course in lunchtimes and have used it to garner interest in the full course.”

Schools interested in teaching Apps for Good in 2015/16 can sign up via the organisation’s website in less than 5 minutes.
