Get Set to Eat Fresh are excited to announce the return of Kevin the Carrot, the star of Aldi’s Christmas advert for a fourth year running, with the new healthy eating resources titled ‘Kevin’s Christmas Journey’ and ‘A Christmas Campaign’.
Garth Lenton, a Year 2 and 3 Maths, PE and MFL Lead shares his classroom strategy to build sustainable and healthy habits in his pupils. By incorporating sustainable diets into their whole school strategy, Garth has seen a noticeable difference in pupils' health as they break unhealthy eating habits at an essential moment in their development. He discusses the benefits of the Eat Like a Champ resources and how they can strengthen the commitment to sustainable eating in his pupils.
The influence of a community is key to helping schools inform a child’s education. Schools often look to outside influences, such as parents and local organisations, to help stimulate new ways of thinking for a pupil. Many organisations and businesses develop an educational outreach programme in order to ensure that key issues, such as nutrition and healthy eating education, are established as an important part of a child’s education, with learnings that will benefit them later in life.
Get Set to Eat Fresh, the healthy eating education programme for 5-14 year-olds from Team GB and Aldi, is supporting schools during Celebration of Food Week (June 12th - 16th) with new resources and special prizes. Next week will see pupils showing their love for fresh, healthy food with a range of cross-curricular learning opportunities.
Change4Life has launched a new Be Food Smart campaign to help children and their families discover how much sugar, saturated fat and salt is in their everyday food and drink. To support the campaign, Change4Life has created a new set of resources to help Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils understand what’s in their food and how to make healthier choices.
A new Change4Life initiative, entitled Our Healthy Year and launched by Public Health England, is encouraging schools to build healthy habits in children during the school years in which they are weighed and measured as part of the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP). This teaching toolkit will be distributed to help increase the number of children leaving primary school with a healthy weight. Our Healthy Year will help schools to run a whole year of fun, healthy curriculum-linked activity and, in doing so, support parents who are looking for ideas to help live healthier lives.
Schools across the country are being encouraged to join the countdown to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with Get Set to Eat Fresh, an exciting education programme created by the British Olympic Association in partnership with Aldi. Teachers can access a range of free curriculum-linked resources and activities that encourage 7-14 year-olds to learn about the importance of eating healthily and get them cooking fresh and nutritious meals. To help bring the programme to life and spread the Get Set to Eat Fresh word, Aldi has selected six Team GB athlete ambassadors, including boxer Nicola Adams, BMX racer Liam Phillips and Taekwondo athlete Jade Jones.
New survey results released by WWF-UK have revealed that 85% of parents of Primary school age children are willing to change their family diet to help protect the environment. However, only 13% of parents are currently taking steps to improve their impact, with a lack of information on the subject holding many of them back. This new survey has encouraged the organisation to launch a new Plant2Plate campaign for 2016.
